Model 36 black German "chainette" dagger, 220 mm double-edge - Lot 66
Model 36 black German "chainette" dagger, 220 mm double-edged straight blade engraved in the Sütterlin alphabet with the corps motto (in German) "Mon honneur s'appelle fidélité" ("My honor is called loyalty"), "A 18" marked on one side of the tang and "0" on the other, "heavy" fittings, low fittings stamped "I" on the reverse, ebony-type handle with black enamelled pastille with initials and eagle with spread wings on swastika, black painted scabbard, with three nickel silver fittings, chain made of skull and crossbones plates with initials interspersed, Wotan knot suspension hook, wear, paint chips on scabbard, 365 mm TL, very fine post-war manufacture, second part of the 20th century. This type of manufacture may have been carried out by the cutlers who made daggers during the war and who, after the conflict, faced with demand from American soldiers looking for "souvenirs" to bring back home, remanufactured daggers, occasionally assembling scrap pieces with new ones.
