Note: The Tale of Tsar Saltan was written by Alexander Pushkin in 1831. Freely inspired by a traditional Russian tale, it was the source of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's fantasy opera of the same name, composed in 1899-1900 to celebrate the centenary of the poet's birth.
