Rare Chassepot model 1854 test rifle, 880 mm rifled barrel, stamped and marked MI, rear lock stamped and signed Manufacture Impériale de Châtellerault, rotary breech system, all brass fittings, oiled walnut stock with stamped MI (date illegible), with its socket bayonet, LT 1245 mm, France Second Empire period, category D § e Provenance: DENIS sale, Saint-Etienne, 1993, lot 262. Denis Collection: a very important collection of arms and uniforms from the late 18th century to the Second Empire, assembled between the wars by a wealthy family from eastern France. No less than three auctions were necessary for its sale in Saint-Etienne on December 12, 1993, May 29 and December 4, 1994.
