Vase with two handles and hemispherical body on flat base. - Lot 243
Vase with two handles and hemispherical body on flat base. It is decorated with four medallions featuring checkerboard, cruciform and circular-arc motifs, perhaps evoking stylized birds. These medallions are linked by wavy lines that symbolize a swirling movement. They may be celestial or cosmogonic representations. The lid is modeled with the head of a warrior chief wearing a bicorn helmet, a red torque and a garment with a radiating neckline. Polychrome terracotta China, Neolithic period, circa mid-3rd millennium (wear to decoration, minor restoration to two lid lobes, chips) Height 32 cm - Width 31 cm Provenance: Former French private collection
