PIERRE-LOUIS Prospère (1947-1997) - Lot 73
PIERRE-LOUIS Prospère (1947-1997) Purple woman in lush vegetation Acrylic on canvas Signed and dated 96 at bottom 75 x 25.5 cm Note : With certificate of authenticity The artist is one of the main contributors to the local school of the "Saint Soleil" art movement. His paintings depicting mystical Vodou Loas and the spirits are particularly noteworthy. The Saint Soleil group disbanded after just a few years, but five artists - Prosper, Levoy Exil , Denis Smith , Dieuseul Paul and Louisiane Saint Fleurant - reorganized as the "Cinq Soleils" group. After years of work, Prosper's technique had greatly evolved and he became a prominent and respected member of the local art community. His flourishing career came to an abrupt end when he died prematurely of an asthma attack in November 1997.
