Hamadan rug (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), Northwest Per - Lot 284
Hamadan rug (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), Northwest Persia, circa 1950-1980 205 x 124 The rug features a large navy-blue octagon enhanced by a red octagon, extended by two pendants, on a red background decorated with the herati motif. This motif is composed of a lozenge of curved stems stems, enclosing a rosette and surmounted by a palmette at each apex, repeated ad infinitum, with four falciform leaves next to each other. This design adorned Herat carpets (to which it owes its name). Three narrow borders with garlands of small geometric flowers encircle the composition. Slight wear, scratches and fraying
