CÉZARD (1924-1977) - Lot 40
CÉZARD (1924-1977) "Pêche interdite" - Illustration for Arthur the Ghost India ink/pencil on card stock Signed and numbered 369 (minor soiling, slight crease upper left corner, annotated "Vu" in pencil upper right) 16 x 50 cm Note: Arthur le fantôme justicier is a comic strip series created by French comic strip artist and scriptwriter Jean Cézard. The series first appeared in No. 451 of the weekly Vaillant (January 3, 1954). It was subsequently published in Pif Gadget, Vaillant's successor, as well as in other Éditions Vaillant publications, such as the Arthur le fantôme justicier Poche series. Cézard continued to publish the adventures of his little ghost in this newspaper until his death on April 8, 1977. The creation of this character marked a turning point in Cézard's career, as he abandoned realism. His later works were exclusively comic: Rigolus and Tristus, Surplouf le petit corsaire and others.
