The latter was the father-in-law of Francis Petit, a painting merchant. Pierre-Prosper Souty developed the family business - selling paintings until 1847 and colors until 1852 - and became a gilder and framer. From 1842 to 1857, he was, among others, the framer of the Ministry of the Interior for the paintings acquired by the Fine Arts Department. Pierre Souty was the most famous framer during the Second Empire and the "supplier of all the Salons". Eugène Delacroix mentions Souty for the first time in a letter of 1828.
