KOGEVINAS Lykourgos (1887-1940) N°11 The convent of Stavroniketa (Mount Athos) Etching Signed in the plate, countersigned lower right and titled lower left (spotting and stain) Dim. subject : 29,5 x 42,5 cm Size of the leaf : 50 x 64,5 cm Note : One of the Orthodox Monastery of Mount Athos dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra Biography : At the age of 16, Lykourgos Kogevinas left his native town of Corfu for Rome and then Paris. There he studied painting and engraving at the Grande Chaumière and at the Academie Julian. After the Second World War he went back and forth between Paris and Greece. In 1921 he met André Dunoyer de Segonzac who was to mark his love for the work of engraving. In 1922 he published his first album with twenty views of the monasteries of Mount Athos with a preface by Charles Diehl.
