Keschan Mostachem carpet (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), - Lot 294
Keschan Mostachem carpet (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), central Persia, ca. 1920 "Kechan was very early a city renowned for the cultivation of mulberry trees and the spinning of silk. The fabrics and shawls of Kachan were famous during the Sefavid era (16th-18th century) and many "Polish" carpets were woven there. From the second half of the 19th century, Kechan again played an important role in the Persian production of quality carpets, especially thanks to Mostashem, a weaver who gave his name to quality carpets. « Bibliographical reference : Taher SABAHI Splendours of the carpets of the East Ed. Atlas, Paris 1987 p. 153 à 155 The carpet is decorated with a large navy blue poly-lobed medallion, extended by two pendants on an ivory background with polychrome stylized floral decoration. The whole composition is embellished with four old rose spandrels. A navy blue border with a garland of stylized flowers surrounds the composition (wear, accidents, damaged ends and edges. It has probably been reduced) 144 x 100 cm Expert : Alexandre Chevalier
