BOULU - GABON - Lot 175
BOULU - GABON Fetish representing a stylized monkey in carved wood, the waist and neck hemmed with a belt of woven plant fibers and shells Height : 33,5 cm Height : 33,5 cm Note : Located in the border zone between Cameroon and Gabon, the Bulu are part of the Fang group, not far from the Bakwele who are culturally close to them. They practiced the ngi ritual to fight against witchcraft, in particular poisonings. Ngi is the gorilla, a fearsome animal with which the postulant identifies after being accepted into the association. The statues of monkeys are striking for their invention of round and simple forms and for the great accuracy in the observation of the animal's attitude.
