HOFFMANN Josef (1878-1957) - WIENER WERKSTÄTTE (1903-1932), Workshop Brass ashtray marked "Osterrei Chischer Lloyd Triest" - Vorwearts on one side and featuring the pleasure steamer Thalia on the other, wave frieze on the border. Stamp on three lines "WIENER/WERK/STATTE" and initials JH on the reverse Circa 1909 (small traces of oxidation and pitting, small dents) Height : 1,8 cm 1,8 cm - Length : 13 cm - Depth : 6 cm Note : "Created in 1903, the Wiener Werkstätte (or Wiener Werkstaette, " Viennese Workshop ", ) is an association of artists and craftsmen whose goal was to produce independently decorative objects, buildings, textile, spectacles. It was an offshoot of the Viennese Secession (Sezessionsstil) and brought together architects, artists and designers, whose primary commitment was to bring the aesthetics of modernity within everyone's reach by combining craftsmanship and the major arts. One of the most representative works of the Wiener Werkstätte is the Palais Stoclet in Brussels. It became a real company with international ramifications and disappeared in 1932."
