HAVILAND & Cie - Atelier d'Auteuil (1872-1881) - Lot 115
HAVILAND & Cie - Atelier d'Auteuil (1872-1881) Pair of egg-shaped barbotine vases with polylobate necks, the body decorated with flowers painted and treated in relief Signed in hollow on the reverse (accidents and misses) Top. 32 cm Note: Ceramic art workshop opened in 1873 in Auteuil, at 116 rue Michel-Ange, by the Haviland brothers, porcelain manufacturers in Limoges. The engraver Félix Bracquemont is the artistic director of the workshop while Charles Haviland takes care of the commercial part and the general management. Around 1875, Bracquemont calls upon Ernest Chaplet. Other artists such as Dammouse and Lafond join the team to paint barbotine ceramics in the Japanese or Impressionist style. This production was awarded a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1878, but remained expensive to make. The Haviland brothers therefore had to give up making it.
