Baron Sarget remains an important figure in the spirit of the Bordeaux people. He was co-owner of the Gruaud Larose castle and owner of the Hôtel Sarget, now the site of the Baccarat house and the Sarget passage. The former is at number 5 of the Cours de l'Intandance, built during the reign of Louis XVI by the architect Combes. The two newts supporting the balcony are by the sculptor Deschamps, originally from Bordeaux. Formerly called Maison Aquart because of its former owner and merchant, it was bought by Baron Sarget and kept the name. It hosted Cremieux and Glais-Bizoin, members of the national defence government in 1870-1871, where they were acclaimed by the crowd and gave patriotic speeches. The second, built from 1833 on the ground floor of buildings belonging to Baron Sarget, was inaugurated in 1878.
