[VAUCLUSE]
Jakob Philipp Hackert (1737-1807) - Paris (engraver): "View of the Fountain of Vaucluse". 1786. Engraving in intaglio. Dim. bowl : 18 x 23.5 cm - Total dim. : 27 x 35.2 cm. Mentions : Hackaert Pinx. - Paris Sculp. Petites taches et rousseurs
Note : Rare engraving found in the frontispiece of the first volume of the first edition of "Les Soirées Provençales, ou Lettres de M. L.P. Bérenger" published in Paris by Nyon l'ainé in 1786. The drawing that served as a model for the engraver was probably executed by Jakob Philipp Hackert when he crossed Provence in 1768 on his way to Italy, as Frauke Josenhans states in her article "Vers le Sud: Le voyage de Johann Georg von Dillis à travers la France, la Suisse et l'Italie en 1806" (Institut national d'histoire de l'art, Paris published in RIHA Journal 0026 - 08 July 2011).
