Note : 13th plate that can be found in the collection "Souvenir des Pyrénées par André Gorse", edited around 1860. Son of the painter Pierre Gorse, originally from Gironde, André Gorse was born in Pau in 1847 where his father had settled the previous year. A writer and historian, he published numerous writings on art and artists in Béarn, and collaborated with several local journals and scientific societies, notably on excavations and cave explorations. Painter and landscape engraver, he exhibited Pyrenean subjects at the Salon from 1870 to 1880. He died in Castets in 1889.
