BOSIO François-Joseph (1768-1845), after - Lot 99
BOSIO François-Joseph (1768-1845), after Henri IV child Proof in bronze with silver patina Engraved "Souvenir des 22 Sept 1889 et 9 mars 1890" - signed F.Barbedienne Fondeur Paris - Stamp "A. Collas Breveté Reduction Mécanique" on the base (slight deformation with the sword) Top. Note : The work of Bosio was reproduced twice in marble, once for the King's House (Palace of Versailles), the other for the Palace of Pau, the birthplace of Henry IV. The silver statue from the Louvre was installed unfinished in the cabinet of Louis XVIII in 1824. The young prince is depicted standing with his left hand holding his sword, the emphasis being on the representation that is both serious and intimate, which allows Bosio to combine classical tradition with renewal. Although he took part in the dynastic propaganda of the Bourbons under the Restoration, the success of this work throughout the 19th century, attested by the numerous repetitions in the most diverse dimensions and materials, is due to a new approach to history perceived in a more familiar dimension.
