BOSIO Franz Josef (1768-1845), after - Lot 123
BOSIO Franz Josef (1768-1845), after Henri IV child Proof in bronze with silver patina Engraved "Souvenir des 22 Sept 1889 et 9 mars 1890" - signed F.Barbedienne Fondeur Paris - Stamp "A. Collas Breveté Reduction Mécanique " on the base (slight sword deformation) Top. : 37 cm Note : Repetition of Bosio's work that he made in marble on two occasions, one for the King's House (Palace of Versailles), the other for the Palace of Pau, the birthplace of Henry IV. The silver statue from the Louvre was installed unfinished in the cabinet of Louis XVIII in 1824. The young prince is depicted standing with his left hand holding his sword, the emphasis being on the depiction being both serious and intimate, which allows Bosio to combine classical tradition with renewal. Although taking part in the dynastic propaganda of the Bourbons under the Restoration, the success of this work throughout the 19th century, attested by the numerous replicas in the most diverse dimensions and materials, is due to a new approach to History perceived in a more familiar dimension.
