AVEDON Richard (1923-2004), after - Lot 234
AVEDON Richard (1923-2004), after Paul McCartney Offset print mounted on cardboard 121 x 99.5 cm Note: In January 1965, the American photographer Richard Avedon met the Beatles at the Ad Lib club in London. He was in town looking for an assignment for Harper's Bazaar magazine. In a penthouse photographic studio at Thompson House in London, Avedon photographed a portrait of Ringo, wearing a laurel wreath, looking like a Roman emperor. The photograph was first published in the Daily Mail newspaper on 12 May 1965 under the title "Hail, Ringo". Two and a half years later, Richard Avedon photographed the Beatles on August 11, 1967 in the same photographic studio. The studio was again used by the Beatles for one of the "Mad Day Out" photo locations on July 28, 1968.
