CHERAU Marie Etienne Gaston dit Gaston Chérau (Niort 1872-1937), journalist, regionalist writer, and photographer. His Destiny. Novel featuring Félicien Barettier, a brilliant officer who, after several disappointments, is sentenced to prison, but decided to fulfill "his" destiny in accordance with his genius, he flees and pretend to be dead, and thus assumes several identities. Novel published by Albin Michel in 1934. Set of manuscripts and typescripts: - a complete galley proof (printed in columns with margins for making corrections) with numerous handwritten corrections in black ink and red pencil by Gaston Chérau, consisting of 69 folio sheets, folded, 2 of which have an annotated typewritten addition. - a complete proof, with important autograph corrections by the author, and inserts of typed sheets, i.e. 100 sheets, signed on the first one, annotated and corrected in black, blue and red, and of which the last sheet is 2/3 manuscript. - a cover of the novel, damaged and printed, with a wet stamp with the mention ""bon à tirer après corrections"" signed by Chérau, on May 16, 1934, who wrote ""please return to me the present proofs after use, as well as the typewritten manuscript"". Inside this cover are 16 pages of handwritten notes relating to the novel. - the file ends with many typed sheets, more or less hand-corrected by the author."
